Gallery Talk: How to initiate the local networking around the world?
Date:2006.9.30(Sat) 2:30 pm.
Venue: Barry Room, Taipei Artist Village A recent study, “Mapping Asian Artists’ Mobility: the dynamic synergy of artist hub” by Bamboo Culture International shows that the art development in Asia is very different from Europe and the States, and each region has its own unique needs and development strategies. In this coming gallery talk, three distinguished art organizations from the north, middle, and south of Taiwan, Margaret Shiu, director of Bamboo Curtain Studio & Bamboo Culture International, Yu-Ping Chen, executive director of Hwataoyao, and Hwei-lan Chang, artistic director of Kio-A-Thau Artist-in-Residence and Kao Yuan University of Technology Art Center are invited to share their current networking and marketing strategies. Further more, they are going to present their recent participation in Intra Asia Network workshop in Seoul: New Ways of Engaging Asia, hoping to implant an active collaborative network in Taiwan and to establish a referral / information sharing platform. Regional and international artists will have access to the world via this network of dynamic artist hubs.
Press Release:
June 3rd Conference and party to celebrate the reopening of Bamboo Curtain Studios to creative artists.
We are happy to announce that our Bamboo Curtain Studio has doubled its plot from 400 ping to 800 ping: meaning from two old chicken coops to four complexes!
We are also happy to announce that we are again open to applicants in need of short term studio spaces. Any groups or individuals that feel they need time and space to try out new ideas that our studio settings can provided. Bamboo Curtain Studio will now welcome artists of all media, besides those of ceramics and sculpture, now we have space to accommodate digital to performing arts. Bamboo Curtain Studio has always been in support of artists in their process of experimentation for new creative expressions, by providing them with time and space: Long enough time to incubate, to mull over their thoughts, and to interact with others of like minds, and re-juxtapose their ideas, plus time to create, and test out their concepts with minimal disturbance.
We are proud that our studio is located near natural open landscape, facing the Kuan-yin mountain, and our bare bone warehouses / studios make it possible to try out things that may be difficult in other settings. The total environment here is conducive to unlimited imagination, and the character of the space has key influence to our artists. But we are within direct access to the dense urban community of Chuwei, and also the Tanshue recreation bike path, plus the easy subway commute to Taipei city.
We are proud to have been a unique incubator of the arts. We have been on this path for eleven winding years. Our studios hope to be the bridge between the visual and new media / performing arts, and the local community. We are proud to welcome the new resident performance group Sun Son Theater lead by Malaysia director Mr. Leonson Ng. (www.sunsontheater.com)
We look forward to accommodating any creative processes, especially those that can make use of our unique environment and make works using our mind, body especially our hands to make works that touches our inner spirit, as we truly believe that art should be used as an instrument to influence social change.
If you have been familiar with our past and would like to give us your views of our future directions, come and be part of this new renovation process this week, and be our volunteer in our artists’ intervention on this small plot of land.
But most important of all, we will be celebrating this extension by having a reunion of all our artists and have a rundown of our past, as we welcome in the new ones to come and connect with us.
We will have a panel discussion on Sat afternoon June 3rd at 130pm, to be chaired by Prof. Huang Hai-ming, and Director J. J. Shi. Then we can all enjoy an Asian buffet after that, to see the Tanshue sunset from our new roof!
Check out the details of Sat, June 3rd, mark down your calendar now!
See you all soon.
