  由Pierre Martin先生策展的加拿大現代錄影藝術欣賞活動,將為您介紹二位來自加拿大年輕的現代影像藝術家 Pascal Grandmaison 先生及Manon Labrecque小姐的最新作品。這項在竹圍工作室展覽的現代影像藝術作品展將提供您在臺灣難得一見的機會親眼目睹二位加拿大藝術家在1999年或2000年完成的作品。在加拿大有非常多的現代影像藝術的製作方法,這次的展覽活動將針對在乏味冗長或是單調無趣的影像中,如何製作出能激發人類理智及情感的作品.,雖然這些影像都是經由新科技所製作而成,但他們卻不是新科技的奴隸。

  Pascal Grandmaison的作品是屬於比較理智性的並且忠於原有的意境,其拍攝的手法非常中立及精密,影像顯示較緩慢及清晰。相反地, Manon Labrecque的作品則充滿了情感,拍攝手法則較為開放而不受拘泥。隨性而不受限是她作品的重要特色之一.,拍攝的影像有時非常快速並失去控制。

  在這次的展覽活動,我們將展出Pascal Gradmaison 八部作品及Manon Labrecque一部作品,並強調二位藝術家作品上的差異::Pascal Grandmaison著重在創造多元錄像形式的可能性,以此呈現藝術家內心的自省, Manon Labrecque則探究單一錄像的呈現,沒有談話內容,但有時會有音樂和聲音。

  本展覽在展示上的特殊安排,用意在於強調並顯現兩位藝術作品間的差異性。
  
  在竹圍工作室的展示空間中,兩個銀幕將以面對面的方式懸掛,每個銀幕放映一位藝術家的作品,因此銀幕在某種意義上象徵著兩張鏡面,使兩位藝術家的作品彼此面對著面,相互對應。再者,錄像作品之間產生了某種藝術性的比較,或爭論性的對話型態。觀者無法同時注視著兩個銀幕(而是從一個銀幕快鏡至另一個銀幕),或觀者可以選擇注視其中一個銀幕,而完全不必在乎他背後所顯映的是什麼。

This exhibition, curated by Pierre Martin, will present, face to face, recent works of two young video artists from Canada, Pascal Grandmaison (a man) and Manon Labrecque (a woman). Pascal Grandmaison video are on the intellectual side and images try to translate as faithful as possible ideas that the artist had, camera use is very neutral and precise, images are slow and clear. Manon Labrecque video are bursting with emotion, camera use is an important part of her work and is spontaneous, images are sometimes out of control and fast. In this special settling at Bamboo Curtain Studio the video will confront themselves, they will show there striking differences, but they can also be seen as completing each other.

藝術家簡介

Manon Labrecque

Manon Labrecque studied dance and creative art. Since 1988, she has been producing performances and choreography in galleries and theatres. The integration of body and movement in video and installation is at the heart of her artistic process. Her production Parc d'amusement won the award for Best First Video at the evenment interuniversitaire d'art video in 1992. The following year at the same event, she won the Public's Prize and Best Video Production with Vice, Vertu et Vice Versa. In 1995, her video, Les amies de l'angoissse was awarded the Public's Choice Award by the Centre international de creation video de Montbeliard at the Deuxieme Manifestation internationale Video et Arts ectroniques Montreal. The C.I.C.V. offered her a residence in Montbeliard (France) to support her work. Her video Hara-Kiri (Exercices) produced in 1998 won the first prize for the Best Production of the Year at the 17th Rendez-vous du cinema Quebecois in Montreal. Her video works have been shown in foreign countries; in France, at the Manosque's Festival "Instants video", at "Expanded Media" (Germany), "Spacejunks" in London (England), the "World Wide Video" Festival in Amsterdam (Holland), and in Paris in 1999 for the "Printemps du Quebec", in Barcelona (Spain) at the Santa Monica Art Centre. In winter 1998, she was a resident artist at the Multimedia Creation Center "Les Cypres" in Aix-en-Provence (France).

Pascal Grandmaison

In 1997, Pascal Grandmaison completed a Bachelor in Visual Arts at the Universite du Quebec a Montreal. Since the early 90's, his practice evolved in the field of photography. He has presented many solo and group exhibitions, participated in special events and collaborated in multidisciplinary activities.? He has been given several grants, mentions have been accorded him by different institutions and he has twice been the recipient of the Pavillon des arts prize in the Fall 96 and Fall 95 exhibitions at the Galerie UQAM (Montreal). After a solo exhibition of photographic works at Galerie Clark in 1998, he produced Expedition Derisoire, a series of 27 videographic modules addressing the relocalisation of some minor contemporary problems linked to organization, communication and progress. During the winter of 1999-2000, Pascal Grandmaison enjoyed a residency at the Centre Cypres in Marseille (France) through the Les Inclassables exchange program of the AFAA (Association francaise d'action artistique) and the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Quebec.
