Projects in Taiwan
The migration of the rhinoceros:The first rhinoceros realized by Roger Gaudreau were underlying the warming of the earth. The animals, originating from Africa, could now be seen under the new mild climates of northern countries like Canada, France or Germany, thanks to the artist. Each time they migrate to a new country they are filled with local materials. In Canada those materials were maple leaves, in Italy it was hay, in France the rhinoceros was filled with local branches and it Germany we can see that the inside is made of rolled up lime.
The Taiwanese rhinoceros that will be exhibited in Taipei Artist Village will go a step further and point to the disappearance that threat the specie. The first one will be executed using the technique of the others rhinoceros scattered throughout the world: a metal wires skin inserted with bamboo pieces in Taipei. The second one will be composed only with bamboo circles floating in the air. That work will suggest the more and more evanescent silhouette of the rhinoceros.
The Ring:The artist will also produce here in Taiwan a clay sculpture (a ring). He will then install it in a forest in the middle of Taiwan, around a new camphor tree. The tree will grow with the ring and one day the ring will touch the skin of the tree. On the ring will be inscribed the name of the tree in Chinese and Latin, the age the tree can get and the diameter it will reach at that time. Other Taiwanese artists, including Wang Wen-Shih, will also install works in the same forest at the same time, and so the forest will dialogue with contemporary art.
